Building and Positioning a Global Real Estate Function

Business Transformation Case

Building and Positioning a Global Real Estate Function
Question

How can a new global real estate function be built and positioned so that clear structures and roles emerge, its value contribution becomes visible, and leadership carries the transformation effectively?

Solution

5D Leadership

By consolidating previously fragmented real estate capabilities, Beiersdorf established a new global real estate function with the ambition to act as a professional one-stop shop and a reliable business partner for the core business.

Over several months of executive sparring, we supported the build-up and positioning of the function: internal structure, roles and responsibilities, strategic priorities, and communication and collaboration with key stakeholders.

At the centre stood the link between organisational clarity and personal leadership: how should structures and processes be designed, and what kind of leadership is needed to make them effective within the group? This work also generated the impulse to support the team's further development through targeted individual coaching of selected leaders.

Building a new global real estate function inside an established corporate environment is far more than a technical and organisational task. It is equally about positioning, leadership, communication and setting the right priorities again and again.

The sparring with Jutta was a highly valuable, independent space for reflection. We discussed strategic and organisational questions openly, took different perspectives and also addressed topics that easily fade into the background in day-to-day operations.

Particularly helpful was the combination of strategic clarity and personal reflection. It sharpened my view of how closely the development of structures and processes is linked to my own leadership and to the development of the people in the team. This also led to the decision to support my team through targeted individual coaching of leaders. I experienced the collaboration as trusting, clear and at the same time constructively challenging.
