Transformation of Traffic Management
Business Transformation Case

“How can a profound transformation and restructuring of traffic control be implemented in a way that ensures leadership, collaboration, and operational stability are maintained at the same time?”
5D Leadership
In this project, we supported DB Fernverkehr in two phases as part of a far-reaching transformation of traffic management alongside a simultaneous restructuring. Our contribution did not lie in shaping the substance of the reorganization decisions or operational processes, but rather in supporting executives and teams in a challenging change environment. Through regular meetings, employee communications, retreats, team workshops, one-on-one coaching sessions, and feedback sessions with top management, we strengthened direction, leadership capabilities, and the ability to handle difficult situations and conversations. The combination of individually tailored coaching, leadership development, and a robust change architecture supported cultural stability and collaboration during a challenging phase.
As part of the “New Traffic Management” project, … and dos Santos supported DB FV AG in two phases through a technological transformation—unusually far-reaching for long-distance rail transport—and a simultaneous restructuring. The project was at times marked by reservations and consequently required consistent leadership as well as a stable change architecture. Through the systematic preparation and development of the leadership team, as well as integrated support in day-to-day project operations, these reservations were addressed constructively, direction was established, and implementation was sustainably stabilized. The combination of individually tailored coaching, team workshops, and management feedback led to noticeably improved collaboration, increased resilience, and clearer, more effective leadership routines. From our perspective, this support was a key success factor in ensuring that the project could be successfully implemented despite the challenging conditions.
