Diego Confalonieri

… is an Italian fencing champion, he fences in the men’s épée event and holds four individual titles. Diego is currently ranked at Number 1 by the Italian Fencing Federation.
Of particular note are his successes at the World Fencing Championship 2007 in St. Petersburg where he won two medals and at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games where he took the bronze medal. During the Beijing Olympics Diego was a member of Team Powerade, Allstar and New Balance. He has subsequently been honoured with the title ‘Knight of the Italian Republic’ a knighthood which was bestowed upon him by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.
Alongside his achievements as an athlete Diego graduated with a Bachelors degree in Marketing and Macro Economics from the University of Milan-Bicocca. Over the past few years he has emerged as a spokesperson for fencing and has been active in innovative training and marketing initiatives. Acting as a fencing ambassador he has participated in workshops on team building strategy, talent management and team leadership working particularly with the leading training and management group Cegos. In 2008 Diego was a speaker at the World High Performance Forum hosted by HSM in Milan. He also takes part as a special guest of the SBS – Masters in Sport Business Strategy at the University Ca’ Foscari in Venice.
